German Diploma thesis about calculators and minicomputers in former East Germany: "Kleincomputer in der DDR" by Tom Schnabel (follow the link "Einsatzgebiete" and "Der Einsatz der Taschenrechner" to get to the article about the MR609/SR1).
Comment From 1979 to 1984 the MR609 was used in a field trial in 24 schools in the GDR. The tests were successful and calculators were introduced at schools starting 1985/1986 using the "SR1". It was technically identical to the MR609. However, its subsidized price made it more affordable.
"RFT" stands for Radio- und Fernseh-Technik (Radio and Television Technics).
