HP's last Classic model. Yet another candidate
for
"best calculator ever". The magnetic card reader gives access to
numberless
software libraries; the weight of it makes it a rather heavy and thus
an
even more impressive device.
Three prefix keys provide access to a large number of functions. The
HP-65's concept of "inversed" functions that can be accessed via f-1
has
been abandoned - maybe it was a little hard to grasp that "f-1
INT" would calculate the fractional part. To avoid a cluttered keyboard
a neat orange/blue coloring scheme is used. Although this scheme is a
bit confusing when it comes to understand the ominous blue "f" labels.
Shortcomings in the programming model of the HP-65 have been eliminated
- the result is a perfect calculator!!
One odd thing, though: With my standard benchmark it is significantly
slower than the HP-65.
The HP-97 was an identical unit in
the shape of a desktop calculator with built-in printer.
